SAN JOSÉ, CA - Mayors from California’s 13 largest cities will hold a virtual press conference tomorrow, Thursday, June 5th at 2pm, urging state leaders to take immediate action to extend funding for the Homeless Housing, Assistance, and Prevention (HHAP) program through Round 7.
The Big City Mayors Coalition—representing over 11 million Californians, more than a quarter of the state’s population— will outline the impacts to our ability to respond to the homelessness crisis if HHAP is excluded from the 2025–26 State Budget.
Since its launch, HHAP has helped CA’s 13 largest cities add over 17,000 shelter beds, serve more than 152,000 individuals, and create 2,300 permanent housing units. Without continued funding, cities will be forced to close shelter beds, reduce outreach services, and eliminate rehousing efforts—putting thousands at risk of returning to homelessness.
